However, the other people, who hold that reading extensively is better, think that one kind of books can only give us one aspect of knowledge. Even the best book only includes one field of information. So they can easily come to the conclusion that “to know more,to read more”. In this case, they believe that reading extensively is better.
In my opinion, we should read selectively and read good books as many as possible. By this way, we can increase the quality and quantity of reading.
范文3
Reading Selectively or Extensively
Many people think that we should read selectively. On the one hand, there"re increasing books published everyday, and it is unlikely that we read all the books because we have no enough time with the modern living pace. But on the other, there is no need to read all the books. What we read should be confined to where we work.
Some others don"t think so. They argue that we should read extensively. It is well known that economy and policy are globalizing. So is knowledge and information. And what"s more, there has been decreasing gap between different disciplines, whether in social science or in natural science. Thus, it is necessary that we read as much as possible.
I do agree to the latter opinion. In the Information Age, we should keep on obtaining knowledge from different sources. Otherwise, we may see ourselves lagging behind others day after day. And more important is the urgent social needs for those who have wide knowledge of both science and society.
批驳类的文章和对比类的文章一样,因为文章里阐述了别人的观点,所以也必须用“They think...”,“They take it for granted that...”
Do “Lucky Numbers” Really Bring Good Luck?
Some people take it for granted that some lucky numbers can bring them good luck. Take the widely used number “8” for example, it is considered a lucky number in that it is sounded like “getting rich” in Chinese and is believed to bring good fortune.
Yet many others think otherwise. They think that numbers have nothing to do with luck. They regard numbers simply as a mathematic symbols for counting. They are anything but a mystery. They laugh at those who think certain numbers can bring good luck.
I"m in favor of the latter viewpoint. I think our society is very modern now. It seems ridiculous to count on the socalled lucky numbers to fulfill our wishes. Whether we can have good luck depends on ourselves. If we work hard, good luck is sure to come.
Sound是联系动词,“听起来”用主动语态sound like,而不是被动语态be sounded like.②不一致。
What Attitude Should We Take to Money
With the arrival of market-based economy, money is becoming more and more important in our life. Hit with this trend, many people come to believe that money is above everything else in their life. But their belief could not arouse any echo in my mind.
It is true that money is a key ingredient in one"s struggle towards happiness, without which, for example, there would be no way to go to college or form a family. On any scale of one"s daily worry, in fact, there is almost nothing heavier than money. If we see it in its true colors, however, money is nothing but a means to an end. Money can buy us food, but not appetite; medicine, but not health; diplomas, but not knowledge; and days of joy, but not the whole life of happiness. And moreover, laying any undue stress on money may lead one to stop at nothing in making it, as can be easily seen in the cases of most corrupt officials.
Therefore, it is necessary to take a correct attitude towards money. On the one hand, money is vital to our daily life, in which ease, it is wise of you to spend not where you may save. On the other, money is something to be plowed into something more important, so it is better to spare not where you must spend. In sum, money means something but not everything to our life.
The World is Getting Smaller and Smaller
We often hear people say, “The world is getting smaller and smaller!” From motorcycles to private cars, from stream locomotives to electric locomotives, from airplanes to rocket planes. The developed transportation has greatly shortened the distance which seems too far to cover.
Another reason is that in this modern society we need to contact frequently with each other. Everyday we must deal with a lot of people known or unknown to us to have our work done, and the modern communication technologies, such as phone, Email, fax, Internet, make our frequent contact possible.
So we can reach the conclusion that the world will get smaller and smaller with the development of our society.
From motorcycles to private cars, from stream locomotives to electric locomotives, from airplanes to rocket planes。
The World is Getting Smaller and Smaller
Most of us had such experience that the world is getting smaller. Perhaps when you go to some place far away from where you live and think you know nobody there, you will be very surprised when you come across one of your old acquaintances somewhere. Then both of you will cry out, “What a small world!”
