Mr. Brown，an aged carpenter，was ready to retire. He told his employer of his to plan leave the house building business and live a more relaxing life with his wife， enjoying time with his extended family. Although he would miss the pay，he needed to retire. They could get by.
The employer was sorry to see so good
favor. Mr. Brown agreed，but his heart wasobviously not in his work. He built the house carelessly and used poor materials. It was an unfortunate to end his career.
When Mr. Brown finished his work， the employer handed the front-door key to him，saying “This is your house. It is my gift to you.”
What a shock！ What a shame！ If Mr. Brown had known he was building his own house，he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well.
So it is with us. We build our lives in a careless way. At important points we do not give the job our best effort. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we have built. If we had realized，we would have done it differently.
Consider yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Each day you hammer a nail，place a board，or put up a wall. Build wisely. It is the only life you will ever build. Remember：“Life is a do- it-yourself project. Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today.”

The hardworking blacksmith Jones used to work all day in his shop. The son of Mr. Smith ，a rich neighbour ，used to come to see the blacksmith every day and for hours and hours he would enjoy himself watching how the tradesman worked.
“Young man ，why don’t you try your hand to learn to make shoe tacks （平 头 钉），even if it is only to pass the time ？” said the blacksmith. The lazy boy agreed.
Old Mr. Smith died and the son on account of the war lost all his goods. He had to leave home and was forced to take up residence in another country. It so happened that in this village there were numerous shoemakers who were spending a lot of money to buy tacks for their shoes.
Our young Mr. Smith，who was finding it difficult to earn his daily life bread， remembered that once upon a time he had learned the art of making tacks and after a while，Mr. Smith found that he was soon making the finest tacks in the village.

How often do you hear people say“I will be happy when...”such as“When I get that thing，I will be happy”，“I will be happy when I pass the exam”and“I would be happy if I had more money”. I have heard these things before and I am sure that I will hear them again.
Many people want to believe that finding happiness is all about finding or getting something that they want. However， not many people have ever found long-term happiness by achieving a goal. There will always be another thing that they want. There will always be another exam or another dollar.
To break this situation，we must find our happiness somewhere else-within ourselves. In other words， happiness is completely an inside job. The key to finding happiness is to understand that happiness is choice rather than the result of an experience.
We have been given everything we happy？ Life is perfect because we create it with our choices. Since we can create life， we can create happiness and choose how much better our lives can get！
Only when we can accept that life is perfect as it is，and that our lives are the sum total of everything that has happened up to this moment，can we accept the joy and the happiness we could get.
