古时候有个姑娘叫花木兰，
聪明伶俐更勇敢。
她织的布匹实在好，
家人亲邻都夸赞。
有一年外族入侵情势紧，
边境告急文书传，
朝廷下了征兵令，
不管老年与少年。
木兰父亲年已迈，
也要应征上前线。
木兰心中似火烧，
怨恨自己不是男。
小弟如今还年幼，
此事急迫怎么办？
好木兰思考一番主意定，
决定自己女扮男，
毅然代父去从军，
出生入死十三年！
身经百战军功立，
敌军闻名魂魄散。
立下功劳不受赏，
要求早日返家园。
木兰回到家中后，
脱去战袍红装换。
战友们前来探望全惊呆，
方知木兰是婵娟。
古乐府有《木兰诗》，
木兰故事记周全。
这首诗结尾几句写得好：
“雄兔脚扑朔，
雌兔眼迷离。
双兔傍地走，
安能辨我是雄雌。”
大意是，雌雄兔子虽有别，
跑动起来难分辨。
也形容事物错综复杂时，
真真假假难分辨。
Complicated and Confusing
In ancient times there was a girl named Hua Mulan，who was bright，smart and brave。She spun good cloth on the loom，and her neighbours all praised her up to the moon。One year an alien country invaded their country and the situation was very tense。The front passed to them urgent messages，and the emperor released a decree。Military conscription was levied regardless of age，old or young。
Mulan's father was an old man，and he too was supposed to go to the front。Mulan was worried in her heart，and wished she had been a boy。Her younger brother，however was too young，but what was to be done about this urgency？
Ruminating，Mulan thought hard and hit upon an idea。She decided to disguise herself as a young lad。Fearlessly she joined the army in place of her father，and fought battles bravely for thirteen years！Fought hundreds of battles and achieved hundreds of victories。The enemy was very frightened even when they heard her name。Deserving of so many awards but she refused to accept them，and would only return home as soon as possible。
When she came back home，Mulan took off the uniform and put on her girl clothing。Her comrades-in-arms came to see her，surprised to see a dyed-in-the-wool young lady。In the old“Yuefu Ballads”there was a Song of Mulan，which records in detail the stories of this heroine。
In the end we have these well-written words：“The he-hare's feet were galloping，the she-hare's eyes were bewildering。When the two were running along together，how could you tell whether it was a male or a female？”By this it meant that though the hare was divided into two sexes，you just can't tell when it is at a considerable distance。
The idiom“Complicated and Confusing”can also mean something was so sophisticated that you can't tell whether it's genuine or fake。
