Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on July 30， 1947 in a small village near Graz， Austria and emigrated to the USA in 1968 when he was 21. Under his diligent work and persistent personal effort， Schwarzenegger is known as a famous bodybuilder and a Hollywood action hero and even as California's governor by the whole world. His success can be described in his own words， “America gave me opportunities， and my immigrant dreams came true. I want other people to get the same chances I did， the same opportunities. And I believe they can.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger is self-determined to be a winner. He never loses sight of this goal until he has achieved it. Then he sets his next goal and uses all efforts to achieve this one. His life experience is a living proof of the American dream， a dream that is realized day by day with many individuals that came to the United States to create a new life. At an early age， he shows a great interest in sports. As a teenager， he decides to become the “most pumped up guy in the world”. Schwarzenegger first gained fame as a bodybuilder. While many others of his generation smoked and heavily protested against the Vietnam War， he had won several titles in bodybuilding. One of the first competitions he won was the Junior Mr. Europe contest in 1965. He won Mr. Europe the following year， at age 19. He went on to compete and won many championships in the following years， including five Mr. Universe， and seven Mr. Olympia wins.
Schwarzenegger moved to the United States when he was 21， with just a duffle bag， a few dollars and little knowledge of English. He once described his poor grasp of English， “Naturally when I came to this country， my English was very bad， and my accent was also very strong which was an obstacle as I began to pursue acting.” In 1971， Schwarzenegger was known as the World's Strongest Man for his several titles in bodybuilding. He had long planned to move from bodybuilding into acting， as many of his idols had done. Initially he had trouble breaking into movies due to his long surname， “overly” large muscles， and foreign accent， but finally he was chosen to play the role of Hercules in Hercules in New York (1970). Later on， Schwarzenegger began to play roles in many Hollywood movies， like The Long Goodbye in 1973， The Running Man in 1987， and the famous True Lies in 1994， etc. However， perhaps his most famous role is in the The Terminator series.
In 1986， Schwarzenegger， this socially liberal Republican married a Democrat from the Kennedy clan， Maria Shriver. And they got four children after the marriage. Later on， Schwarzenegger began to plan his life again and moved to his political career. Schwarzenegger's first political appointment was as chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports， on which he served from 1990 to 1993. Later， he served as Chairman for the California Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. In the 2003 recall elections， Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected as Governor of California and won reelection in 2006. Schwarzenegger did enjoy a large degree of success and victories in his governorship， including repealing an increase in the vehicle registration fee as well as preventing driver's licenses being given out to illegal immigrants， etc.
It has been said Schwarzenegger has a “ business empire”. By the age of 30， Schwarzenegger was a millionaire， well before his career in Hollywood. His financial independence came from a series of successful business ventures and investments. In 1968， Schwarzenegger and fellow bodybuilder Franco Columbu started a bricklaying business. The business flourished thanks to the pair's marketing savvy and an increased demand following a major Los Angeles earthquake in 1971. Schwarzenegger and his partner used profits from their bricklaying to start a mail order business. Schwarzenegger rolled profits from the mail order business and his bodybuilding competition winnings into his first real estate venture： an apartment building he purchased for $10，000. In 1992， Schwarzenegger and his wife opened a restaurant， but he sold it in 1998. Then he invested in a shopping mall in Columbus， Ohio.
Schwarzenegger has talked about some of those who have helped over the years in business， “I couldn't have learned about business without a parade of teachers guiding me. I even learned a thing or two from Hollywood， such as when to get out！ And I did！”
